THERE IS LARGE VARIATION IN OUTCOME FROM COCHLEAR IMPLANTATION; MANY CHILDREN DO VERY WELL AND KEEP UP WIHT PEERS- BUT OTHERS HAVE MORE DIFFICULTY AND LAG BEHIND. THIS MAY BE BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN IMPLANTED LATER, OR BECAUSE THEY HAVE ANOTHER DIFFICULTY SUCH AS A LANGUAGE LEARNING DIFFICULTY OR BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT EDUCATED WELL.

I THINK ALL PARENTS FEEL THIS FEAR WHEN THEIR CHILDREN DO START SCHOOL –AND FOR A CHILD WITH A HEARING LOSS IT WILL BE MORE DIFFICULT,; I THINK THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO MAKE SURE YOU BOTH HAVE BEEN TO THE SCHOOL SO YOU KNOW WHERE SHE IS GOING AND MEET THE TEACHERS SO THAT IT IS NOT ALL NEW. HELP HER TO MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE OTHER CHILDREN AND PREPARE HER AS WELL AS POSSIBLE. A HOME SCHOOL DIARY WITH PICTURES IN IT CAN HELP HER TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING AND GIVE HER SOMETHING TO SHOW YOU WHEN SHE COMES HOME AND SOMETHING TO SHOW THE TEACHER WHEN SHE GOES TO SCHOOL. [Liana-Armenia] Do children with CI need to sit by the window in a classroom?
NOT ALWAYS – IT DEPENDS ON THE CLASSROOM – THE LIGHT SHOULD BE ON THE TEACHER AND SOMETIMES TO BE NEAR THE WINDOW CAN BE TOO BRIGHT FOR THE CHILD TO SEE PROPERLY. THE CHILD NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE OTHER CHIDLREN AND THE TEACHER – BUT NOT ALL THE TIME!! THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE… AND IS NOT REAL LIFE.
