Jiří Skřivan, M.D. , PhD.
Current position: 2015 – 2021 head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, and University Hospital Motol.

As a travelling surgeon visiting often foreing ENT departments as an instructor and lecturer in otosurgery, skull base surgery, cochlear implantation and Baha surgery (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Malta, Palestine, Kuwait and Oman).
Operated over 1200 cochlear implants of all major brands (Cochlear, MedEl, Advanced Bionics). Personal experience with Cochlear TM Nucleus® Electrode Portfolio (CI 512, CI422, Hybrid L24, CI24RE(ST), CI24M Double Array, CI532).

◼ Surgery of chronic otitis media and its sequelae — cholesteatoma, reconstructive middle ear surgery, use of synthetic materials in the middle ear cavity, ionomer glass cement in a reconstructive ear surgery, surgery of otogenic suppurative complications, surgery of congenital anomalies of the ear
◼ Secretory otitis media in children — conservative and surgical treatment
◼ Cochlear implantation and auditory brainstem implantation — selection of suitable implant candidates, surgery, postoperative care and rehabilitation; pre-surgical electrical stimulation of deaf (promontory test), predictive factors in candidates of cochlear implantation, CT and MRI imaging of the cochlea
◼ Bone anchored hearing aids (Baha) in a conductive and mixed hearing loss and in single sided deafness
◼ Skull- base surgery – surgery of vestibular schwannomas (via translab), tympanojugular paragangliomas, carcinomas and other complicated and large entities involving the lateral skull base
◼ Antibiotic treatment of external and middle ear infections
◼ Computers — database management of group of patients (cochlear implant candidates, surgery for cholesteatoma)
◼ Main author of major grant projects (Electrical stimulation of deaf, Predictive factors in cochlear implants, Functional evaluation of results of tympanoplasties, Auditory brainstem implants, Identification of hearing nuclei in the brainstem, Baha in a single-sided deafness), co-author of number of other grant projects
◼ Published over 80 papers in specialized periodics both home and abroad as a main author and over 40 as co-author; 3 translations of medical textbooks for postgraduates from English to Czech, presented over 80 lectures in renowned meetings both home and abroad.
