PORA! 4.02. «Material for therapy sessions for children with CI»

Nicole da Rocha, speech therapist, AVT, clinical audiology from the UK, will be conducting a webinar on February 4. She will enlighten us about the array of online materials available for rehabilitation and the various ways to incorporate them effectively. Additionally, we have scheduled a forum discussion for March 3rd.

 

Nicole ‘s training and experience has been focused in early intervention and her therapeutic approach is transdisciplinary, child lead with family centred care. She has over 15 years of clinical experience with further qualifications in multilingual speech acquisition, AAC (augmentative alternative communication), AVT (auditory verbal therapy) and am also Hanen certified.

She currently works for Advanced Bionics, a cochlear implant manufacturer as international consumer excellence manager. She supports families and professionals with the process of receiving cochlear implants and getting the brain acclimatised to sound.

PORA! 26.11 Forum-Discussion Parent-child interaction. A day full of opportunities

We would like to invite you to the  PORA! Forum-Discussion on November 26 with specialists from Spain and Portugal.
Main reason parents decide to go with implants for their child is a development & use of child’s speech & hearing. At the last meeting, we discussed the role and models of parents-child interaction, five simple but important steps — Brain-Building SERVE & RETURN and how to improve the quality of communication, as well as to increase the child’s active vocabulary.

When parents learn to talk more they will tend to talk in different ways…
and say more positive things.

Robert Mandara, 54
British but living in Finland since 1996. Born with congenital sensorineural deafness.
First hearing aid at age 4, with tinnitus starting at around the same time.
Attended mainstream school and university – Electronic and Electrical Engineering. Employed as a Senior Technical Writer.
Right ear was implanted in 2014 and the left ear in 2016, with Cochlear brand implant and N6 processors.
Active CI advocate: Vice-President of EURO-CIU since 2019, a full member of CIICA, peer support person in Finland, volunteer at European Friendship Week for young CI users.

The story of the journey of CI was shared by Robert on May 21st.

Topic “How to minimize lesson preparation ” is presented by Rebecca Claridge from Australia . 

Rebecca Claridge is a certified practising Speech Pathologist and Listening and Spoken Language specialist with more than 30 years’ experience working with people using cochlear implants. She has worked at the Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre, Brisbane’s Hear and Say Centre and run her own private practice.
In 2015 she began working for MED-EL developing the popular free downloadable lesson kit resources for children. In 2017 she joined MED-EL Global Rehabilitation team and in 2021 commenced a newly created role within MED-EL as the Regional Rehabilitation Manager for Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Ksenia Vorotnikova
Sensorineural hearing loss, has worn HA all her life, in 2018 — CI surgery on the left ear. CI and HA user.
She finished high school in Astrakhan and graduated from the State University of Geodesy and Cartography, Faculty of Architecture. Employed in a large design office as an architect. Member of the KI;SA team.

Alexandra Kharina
hearing loss since childhood, she used HA as a child, one CI at the age of 29, knows sign language. Education and work: training in a special kindergarten, Leongard method, school for children with  hearing impairments, attended a regular school in the USA by grant, National Research University of Higher School of Economics. Employed in a large manufacturing company.
Experience in dealing with the hard of hearing and deaf: the ROOI “Perspektiva”, Business Council on Disability Issues,  on the rights of the hearing impaired in Strasbourg, volunteer work in the youth movement “Team KI;SA”
